You are an absolute inspiration, Matthew David. Thank you for your vulnerability and candor. As somebody about to go on sabbatical (my first ever, and this three years past due), I’m trying to figure out how to just BE silent - how to enter into the stillness before it’s gone. God bless you - take whatever time you need to pause. You are a gift and blessing to your readers.

Matthew David, I know you moved to Denver during a pandemic, started the chapel during a very difficult time. Please take a pause. We as humans need to heal and regroup. We who love you will continue with you!!! Much love, Gloria

Mathew David you’re on to something we all should take stock of. How to live a life worth living. This is a community not a factory. I’m not feeling cheated at all. I feel inspired and support you in your journey as I’m sure you support mine. Just be you.

Matthew David, I’m so damn happy to hear from you…been thinking a lot about you and wondering if you were struggling with anything in particular. From my perspective being on the side of one who has signed up to support you at Heartsong all I was hoping for was a space to get to know you, it feels like developing a sacred relationship, one that does not have to be shiny and new all the time. One where you can bring your vulnerability and be met with my vulnerability. Sometimes it feels like the big “world” offers only sadness, pain and suffering and all I want to do in response is retreat and “freeze” as you describe. When we can share these feelings it creates a safe space in which to help each other through these times. I have no grand expectations that I need you to fill for me…just be you, that is always where I feel the most comfortable. I think the smaller intimate connections are what give us what we are all searching for in order to thrive in the uncertainness of our lives. Taking time to pause is paramount and significant as a way to bring breath in to where we are and honor the feeling that come with it. I appreciate you and find strength in your sharing today. Thank you for peering back in, it’s wonderful to “see” you.

No apologies necessary among friends. You do what you need to do ... pausing and resting your heart is so important. I am a little envious actually ... lol. Matthew David, please care for yourself, reach out when it suits you , and we will do the same

Thanks Matthew David for your honest words. Your experience confirms the challenge for anyone committed to cyclical or simply steady output of thought or creative work. We each need (with the help of God and our fellow travelers) to find our own rhythms of “Sabbath” and work. And expect cold and silent stretches.

Sounds like a wise plan - God will provide you with direction as you make these changes. Loved the flower picture.

Please pause when needed. From someone who has been recovering for 10 years from a lifetime of burning myself out. You are a much loved child of God, blessed with dreams and visions.

For me, pausing, resting, and even freezing are all spiritual solutions to the human maladies created by capitalism. Our instincts are designed to protect us, even from ourselves. There's a reason many liturgical calendars across different faiths include periodic seasons and/or holy days specifically designated for rest and quiet contemplation. Good job, Ma! You're crushing it! :)

Hey call it a sabbath. Cindy compared gods days of creation with a musical scale, like C major, and if you walk up a C major scale on the piano you cannot get to the next higher level of music step 8 octave (C) without passing thru the seventh note, (B), which is the same number 7 as the seventh day when God rested from all his work.

so, you gotta do it.🤯

Matthew David, I have a friend who attended Iliff and is now at a church in California. I tell you this because I think he could be a good friend as you go through this period of life. It doesn't hurt that he is a single, handsome, and really genuine man. I'm listing the link to his church if you are so inclined to know more about his ministry. He is a musician (piano) and his life is lived for social justice issues.

God bless you in this spiritual journey at hand.
